Local Student Clarissa Winfield of Oriskany Falls Earns Academic Recognition at Skidmore College

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (07/01/2010)(readMedia)-- Clarissa Winfield, a member of the Class of 2010 at Skidmore College, earned academic recognition at the college this spring.

She is the daughter of Kelly and Kevin Labor of Oriskany Falls.

Winfield earned a B.S. degree magna cum laude at Skidmore's 99th commencement in May. In addition, she received the John P. Shepard Prize in Education Studies, named in honor of a former professor and given annually to the student who has demonstrated superior performance in both academic achievement and field work in education. The prize also recognizes the recipient's demonstrated outstanding potential, commitment to education and working with children, and leadership among peers.

She earned high honors for academic work completed during the spring semester at Skidmore.

During her Skidmore career, Winfield also was a member of Periclean, Skidmore's own academic honor society, which was formed in 1956 to stimulate intellectual curiosity, encourage creative activity, and honor academic achievement.

Founded in 1903, Skidmore College is a coeducational, liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 2,400 students. The college grants the bachelor's degree in some 60 majors, including both traditional liberal arts disciplines and preprofessional programs. Skidmore also awards the master of arts in liberal studies degree.
