SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (07/01/2010)(readMedia)-- Krista Martin, a member of the Class of 2010 at Skidmore College, earned academic recognition at the college this spring.
She is the daughter of Paula and Rodney Martin of Strasburg.
Martin earned a B.A. degree summa cum laude with honor in women's studies and business at Skidmore's 99th commencement in May.
She also earned two academic prizes. The Gail Moran Morton '60 Prize, named for an alumna, is annually awarded to a junior or senior whose excellence in the business major has been combined with a particularly broad liberal arts program of study. The Periclean Scholar Award is presented to four graduating seniors who have completed outstanding senior projects. Martin was recognized for her senior thesis, titled " 'Hookers and Holidays': Interdependence and Convergence between Nevada Legalized Prostitution and the Tourism Industries."
Martin earned high honors for academic work completed at the college during the spring 2010 semester.
During her Skidmore career, she was a member of Periclean, Skidmore's own academic honor society, which was formed in 1956 to stimulate intellectual curiosity, encourage creative activity, and honor academic achievement.
Founded in 1903, Skidmore College is a coeducational, liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 2,400 students. The college grants the bachelor's degree in some 60 majors, including both traditional liberal arts disciplines and preprofessional programs. Skidmore also awards the master of arts in liberal studies degree.
