SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (06/20/2013)(readMedia)-- Lucas Holmes, a member of the Class of 2013 at Skidmore College, earned academic recognition at the college this spring.
He is the son of Graham Holmes and Jody Newton of Wayland.
Holmes earned a B.A. degree summa cum laude with honor in sociology at Skidmore's 102nd commencement in May. In addition, he was elected to membership in the college's Phi Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the national honor society that recognizes superior achievement in the liberal arts.
This spring Holmes received the Nancy Beth Rautenberg '83 Memorial Award, presented annually to a graduating senior sociology major who has combined commitment to the study of sociology with active student leadership.
Holmes earned honors for academic work completed at the college during the spring 2013 semester.
During his Skidmore career, Holmes was a member of the Periclean Honors Forum, which recognizes academic achievement and promotes intellectual and creative activity as well as citizenship and civic engagement. In addition he was elected to membership in the Skidmore chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, the national sociology honor society.
Founded in 1903, Skidmore College is a coeducational, liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 2,400 students. The college grants the bachelor's degree in some 60 majors, including both traditional liberal arts disciplines and preprofessional programs. Skidmore also awards the master of arts in liberal studies degree.
