Local Student Margaret Myers of Freeport Earns Academic Recognition at Skidmore College

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (06/21/2013)(readMedia)-- Margaret Myers, a member of the Class of 2013 at Skidmore College, earned academic recognition at the college this spring.

She is the daughter of Grace Houghton of Freeport and the late John Myers.

Myers earned a B.A. degree summa cum laude with honor in English and religious studies at Skidmore's 102nd commencement in May, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the national honor society that exists to encourage and recognize outstanding individual achievements in liberal education. In addition she received the Edwin Moseley Prize in English, named in honor of a former provost of the college and presented to a senior who has shown outstanding promise as a literary critic, scholar, or artist, and who intends to pursue graduate studies or a career in writing.

During her Skidmore career Myers was elected to the Skidmore Periclean Honors Forum, which recognizes academic achievement and promotes intellectual and creative activity as well as citizenship and civic engagement.

She earned honors for academic work completed during the spring semester.

Founded in 1903, Skidmore College is a coeducational, liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 2,400 students. The college grants the bachelor's degree in some 60 majors, including both traditional liberal arts disciplines and preprofessional programs. Skidmore also awards the master of arts in liberal studies degree.
