Lung Force Turquoise Takeover Kickoff with Mayor Jackson and Cleveland City Council

CLEVELAND OH (05/07/2015)(readMedia)-- Lung Cancer is the #1 cancer killer of both men and women.

Every five minutes, a woman in the United States is told that she has lung cancer.

Every eight minutes, a woman in the United States dies of lung cancer.

Less than half of all women diagnosed with lung cancer will be alive one year after diagnosis.

Only 16% of those diagnosed will still be alive after five years.

ANYONE can get lung cancer.

WHAT:

Representatives from the American Lung Association of the Midland States, Cleveland City Council Members, and Mayor Frank G. Jackson invite you to attend the LUNG FORCE kick off of National Women's Lung Health Week and LUNG FORCE, a national women's health initiative with the singular mission of uniting women to stand together against lung cancer and for lung health.

The Cleveland LUNG FORCE Kickoff will take place at Cleveland City Hall on May 11th, 2015, and will be one of the local LUNG FORCE Kickoffs taking place in various towns and cities across the country.

LUNG FORCE was launched in May 2014 by the American Lung Association, a leading organization in the fight against lung cancer for more than 50 years through research, advocacy, patient programs and health education and awareness.

LUNG FORCE is intended to educate and empower patients and healthcare providers as well as raise critical funds for lung cancer research.

City of Cleveland Council members are presenting the American Lung Association of the Midland States with a council resolution and Mayor Frank G. Jackson will be presenting a proclamation for Women's Lung Health Week May 11 to 17th, 2015.

WHEN: Monday May 11th, 2015 7:00pm A pre-meeting reception will be held in council chambers starting at 6 pm.

WHERE: Cleveland City Council Chambers

WHY: Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of women with one of the lowest five-year survival rates of all cancer types, at approximately 17.8 percent. The death rate of lung cancer in women has doubled over the last 35 years. Despite the startling statistics, most women do not consider lung cancer to be a serious health threat and are not aware of the alarming facts.
