Media Advisory: Press Conference Monday Morning
ALBANY, NY (02/24/2012)(readMedia)-- The New York State Public Employees Federation (PEF) will hold a press conference Monday morning in Rochester to discuss concerns about the potential harm to individuals, families, neighborhoods and the Rochester economy that may arise from state efforts to close Monroe Developmental Center and some group homes for the developmentally disabled.
The process, which has already begun, is displacing nearly 150 individuals with critical needs for treatment and supervision, including some registered sex offenders. In addition, approximately 400 staff face transfer or job loss as a result of these facility closings.
Among those who will speak at the press conference are PEF President Kenneth Brynien, PEF Division 259 Council Leader Randi DiAntonio, PEF Region 3 Coordinator John Prince and family members of the individuals now living in the affected state facilities.
Time: 11:30 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012
Place: Brighton Town Park, Carmen Clarke Lodge 777 Westfall Road Rochester, NY 14620
