DES MOINES, IA (08/01/2011)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Milton Menefee of Denver as an Iowan of the Day for the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
Menefee keeps himself busy by giving back to his community every day. He has done everything from mowing the lawn for the city of Denver Parks and Recreation program to volunteering at the Cedar Valley Food Bank. Menefee has been an assistant coach for Little League baseball and softball teams. He has also helped the Denver Lions Club with events in the community. Menefee has been active with the American Legion and volunteers with the Denver Community School and the Denver Public Library. Menefee also volunteers each and every day with the residents at the Denver Sunset nursing home. He can be found volunteering at blood drives, churches, Goodwill Stores, the Salvation Army, the hospital and makes monetary donations to organizations or people in need.
"Even with all the money he has donated and time he has given, he is not someone who receives a lot of awards," said Kathryn Enslin community member and Menefee's nominator. "He very much deserves to be recognized for all that he does in our area." When Denver has a need, Menefee does what he can to help. This attitude makes him an excellent choice as Iowan of the Day.
Menefee's day of recognition will be Wednesday, August 17 at the 2011 Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, Menefee will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Menefee will also receive a special introduction at 2:30 p.m. August 17 on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.
Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's shining stars. The program continues to honor individuals from across the state each year who have made a difference in others' lives while upholding characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $80 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
