Creating a More Livable City For All

MAY 6, 2014 (05/08/2014)(readMedia)-- The City of Winchester has engaged the services of GreenPlay LLC to help conduct a community needs assessment of parks and recreation. The intent of this needs assessment is to identify Winchester's park, recreation and open space needs, prioritize capital improvement projects and to proactively plan for the future. In order to identify these needs, the Winchester Parks and Recreation Department is asking for the community's input. Citizen input will help mold the survey questionnaire and final consultant recommendations.

As a component of the planning process, GreenPlay is conducting a series of focus group meetings with community leaders and residents. Because the City values the public's opinion, interested citizens are invited to participate in one of these focus groups. The meetings will consist of approximately 20 participants and may last up to 90 minutes. GreenPlay will ask participants a variety of questions to assess customer satisfaction, parks, recreation and open space needs of the community, and issues that should be addressed in the needs assessment survey questionnaire. With a focus group, there are never wrong answers, so the community is encouraged to be open and freely express their thoughts.

The meetings will take place on Tuesday, May 20th and Wednesday, May 21st at the War Memorial Building in Jim Barnett Park. To accommodate busy schedules, a variety of meeting times are available on a first come first serve basis. The focus group meetings are scheduled for May 20th at 1pm and 5pm and May 21st at 9am in the Lord Fairfax Room.

Please call Jennifer Stotler with the Winchester Parks and Recreation Department at 540-662-4946 to reserve a time slot. The community's input will help guide the future of Winchester Parks and Recreation Department - improving the quality of life in our community for generations to come.
