Skate Pavilion Fundraiser Planned For Chipotle
Skateboarding group raises funds for new equipment
WINCHESTER, VA (05/05/2014)(readMedia)-- A skateboard enthusiast group organized by Winchester Park Advisory Board Vice Chairperson, Shelly Lee, will host a fundraiser on Tuesday, May 13th. The community is encouraged to eat at Chipotle Mexican Grill between the hours of 5pm and 8pm on May 13th as 50% of all proceeds will be given to the fund raising effort. The group will use the funds to match $35,000 committed by the City of Winchester to purchase the third and final section of the equipment for the Skate Pavilion. The goal is to raise the final $10,400 to match city funds which will allow for the purchase of hubba ledges, stairs, ramps, and an elevated platform completing section 3 of the Skate Pavilion located at Christianson Familyland in beautiful Jim Barnett Park.
Winchester Parks and Recreation Department is slated to install new grind rails, jersey barriers, and a hipped pyramid with 3 foot ledge as well as widen the current concrete pad on June 16, 2014. The installation will complete section one under the shelter and section two - the existing concrete pad. The Skate Pavilion is a unique skate park as it is exclusively "street features and obstacles" and has one section under roof to protect from the elements. Water fountains and restrooms are located at the Skate Pavilion.
