DES MOINES, IA (08/01/2023) (readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Nelda Bartels of Lytton as an Iowan of the Day for the 2023 Iowa State Fair.
Nelda is known as the "energizer bunny" of her small town of Lytton. At eighty years old, she doesn't plan on slowing down anytime soon. She supports her friends and those in need by taking them to their medical appointments. When RAGBRAI came through town, Nelda worked tirelessly to help the pie committee line up pies, along with supporting the many other committees involved to help make for a very special day in Lytton.
Nelda is always there to take pictures and promote her small town to the best of her abilities. She has taken photos many years for the annual Lytton Gala Days Celebration. Nelda leads the designing of the face of the town; including the welcome signs as well as the plants she maintains each summer. She can be found attending local sporting events as one of the biggest fans. Nelda coordinates muffins each year for the Sunday school kids. It's safe to say that she loves her small town and the great state of Iowa.
Nelda's day of recognition will be Saturday, August 12 at the 2023 Iowa State Fair. She will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage at 12:00 PM. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, she will receive a gift bag, Grandstand Concert tickets, use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart, a cash prize, Iowa State Fair admission tickets, and VIP parking.
Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's most outstanding individuals. The program continues to honor Iowans across the state who have made a difference in the lives of others, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa- dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
