New Geneva College Students Serve the Community on Saturday, August 27
BEAVER FALLS, PA (08/23/2011)(readMedia)-- As part of the Our Town event during Welcome Week, incoming first-year Geneva College students will participate in a variety of community service projects throughout the area on Saturday, August 27. Our Town is a day of learning and service that unites new students and introduces them to the broader community of Beaver Falls through a service experience together.
"Our Town provides an opportunity for students to begin to think about what it means to be a servant-leader and to begin to ask questions about why service is an important part of their experience at Geneva College," explained Assistant Director for the Center for Faith and Practice Missy Davis. "We believe that students have much to learn from the community; that students are being served as well as they learn from the organizations and people they are serving alongside."
The Center for Faith and Practice encourages students to think about how their faith influences all aspects of their life. "Part of this is helping students understand what Jesus meant when he said 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul' and 'Love your neighbor as yourself' (Luke 10:27)," said Davis.
Our Town provides an introductory step for students to be involved in the local community by partnering with organizations in the area. Service sites and organizations include:
