MONTGOMERY, AL (12/02/2011)(readMedia)-- The Alabama National Guard is proud to host the ribbon cutting ceremony for its new Joint Force Headquarters building. Governor Robert Bentley and Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange are scheduled to join the Alabama National Guard Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Perry G. Smith, in the official ribbon cutting ceremony. Maj. Gen. Gill P. Beck, commander of the United States Army Reserve's 81st Regional Support Command, will also join Maj. Gen. Smith.
The new building has more than 208,330 square feet and houses the Alabama National Guard Joint Force Headquarters; the Alabama Army National Guard's 131st Mobile Public Affairs Detachment and 151st Army Band; and the United States Army Reserve's 358th Medical Detachment Veterinary Services, 282nd Quartermaster Company and 206th Transportation Company.
Among its many cost savings and energy efficient features, the building is home to Alabama largest solar project, with solar panels that provide more than 340 kilowatts of power to the facility.
