WESTBURY, NY (09/08/2016)(readMedia)-- As part of an ongoing effort to highlight hardworking people, and their desire for better jobs, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union is launching a coordinated television campaign and grassroots effort to show why Long Island needs Best Yet and Best Market stores to change for the better.

"I have lived on Long Island my entire life, I know the real difference that a good job with better wages and benefits can make," said Steven Dozier, a Local 1500 member from Roosevelt who is part of the ad. "When Best Market grew, they didn't do it alone, their hardworking employees and their dedication are the real secret to Best Market's success. Best Market needs to change and do what's right, by providing our neighbors and friends with better wages and benefits so that we can all have have a better future together. We want Best Market to live up to their name and do what's best for Long Island families, they owe it to those who work hard everyday and to our communities."

In addition to the new ad, a special event has been planned so that neighborhood families can speak directly with Best Yet and Best Market customers about how better jobs can build a better community. It will take place Friday, September 9, from 10am to 11am at 711 E Jericho Tpke, Huntington Station, NY, 11746.

The television ad campaign will run on cable channels and local broadcast news programs throughout the Long Island region for multiple weeks.

The script for the 60-second ad is below.

"Long Island is a special place, it's home

And we're there for each other.

The people we serve are more than our customers...

...they're our neighbors and friends.

We're a community

And when good employers do what's right, it makes a real difference

Rewarding our hard work with better wages and benefits...

Good schedules so we can spend time with family.

A real retirement plan...

That's the difference a good employer makes.

It makes our whole community better, our families stronger.

And, it's why some grocery stores, like Best Yet Market, need to change for the better

Best Yet let go of hard-working members of our union family.

They cut pay and benefits to good people

They squeeze every dollar for themselves, not our community

Being selfish, those are not Long Island values

So tell Best Yet: it's time to change.

Do what's right.

Treat those who work hard for you with respect

So we can all care for our customers...and all our families."
