Nicole Jones Earns Player of the Week Award

BROCKPORT, NY (12/12/2012)(readMedia)-- Nicole Jones (West Charlton, NY/Galway) of The College at Brockport Women's Track and Field team has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Female Field Athlete of the Week after setting two school records over the weekend. Jones was named Field Athlete of the Week during the final week of last year's indoor season as well.

Competing for the first time at the newly constructed Special Events Recreation Center (SERC), Jones broke her own school record in the shot put event with a distance of 12.89 meters (42' 3 ½") on just her third attempt of the day. Jones' previous school mark of 12.69 meters was set last season at the SUNYAC Indoor Championships. Through two weeks of competition, Jones is currently ranked fourth among all Division III competitors in the event.

Jones also broke the indoor school record in the weight throw event. The senior set a mark of 16.32 meters (53' 6 ½") on her third attempt once again. Jones' previous personal best was also set last season at the SUNYAC Indoor Championships with a distance of 15.44 meters.

Brockport's next meet will take place at the SERC on Jan. 18 for the first-ever Golden Eagle Invitational.
