FORT MCCLELLAN, AL (07/06/2016)(readMedia)-- Residents in the vicinity of Fort McClellan and Pelham Range may experience periodic increased noise due to mortar live-fire, July 8, 9 and 15, 2016.

Quiet time (all firing suspended) will be observed between the hours of 10 p.m. through 7 a.m., in accordance with the Fort McClellan Range regulations.

Atmospheric conditions may increase the noise level. Atmospheric conditions such as wind speed and direction, cloud cover, temperature and relative humidity all contribute to the distance and intensity that sounds travels. Depending on atmospheric conditions, the sound of mortar firing may be amplified and heard up to five miles away. The current, long-range forecast indicates favorable conditions for keeping noise to a minimum, but those conditions are always subject to change.

The Alabama National Guard and the Fort McClellan Army National Guard Training Center appreciate the community's understanding and continued support of local Soldiers and their families. While sometimes loud, the sounds of large weaponry represent how the military ensures our nation's service members are ready to accomplish their mission.

To report concerns related to artillery noise, please call Range Control at the Fort McClellan Army National Guard Training Center at 256-847-3037. A member of the Range Control staff will contact you regarding your concern during regular business hours, Tuesday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
