ROCHESTER, NY (04/19/2012)(readMedia)-- The Parsons Dance performance at the Nazareth College Arts Center on Saturday, May 5 at 8 p.m. will feature the company's signature piece Caught, as well as Round My World and A Stray's Lullaby, their two 2012 world premieres, first performed at the Joyce Theater this past January. Program Highlights

David Parsons' stroboscopic masterpiece, Caught, features more than one hundred leaps in six minutes by a solo dancer who is repeatedly trapped in mid-motion by the strobe lights, which create an illusion of flight. After thousands of performances, worldwide, for nearly thirty years, Caught continues to thrill audiences at every performance.

"Round My World is set to intriguing, multi-dimensional, digitally-layered music by renowned solo cellist and composer, Zoe Keating. Keating makes intricate, complex and entrancing ribbons of sound which David Parsons wraps and unwraps around six dancers. Frequently creating circular shapes, the dancers propel, twist, tangle and flow; they rise and fall, forcibly rush and gently meander. Artistic Director/Founder David Parsons

Dancer/choreographer David Parsons, who has been described as "one of the great movers of modern dance," (Jennifer Dunning, The New York Times), founded Parsons Dance in 1987 with lighting designer Howell Binkley. Since then, he has created more than 80 works for the company, through commissions from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre, the American Dance Festival, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, New York City Ballet, Paul Taylor Dance Company, the Spoleto Festival and Het Muziektheater in Amsterdam, among others. His works have also been performed by renowned companies such as Batsheva Dance Company of Israel, English National Ballet, Feld Ballets/NY, Hubbard Street Dance Company, Nederlands Dans Theatre and Paris Opera Ballet.

He choreographed and directed the dance elements for Times Square 2000, the 24-hour festivities in Times Square celebrating the turn of the Millennium, viewed live on television by billions of people worldwide.

Parsons is a recipient of the 2000 Dance Magazine Award, as well as the 2001 American Choreography Award, for his work with AEROS, a production featuring the Romanian Gymnastic Federation broadcast on the Bravo Channel. Mr. Parsons also received the Dance Masters of America Award in July 2011.

The Nazareth College Arts Center Box Office is located on campus, at 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, New York, 14618. Regular box office hours are Monday- Friday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and 11 a.m. until curtain time on performance days.
