Planned Parenthood CEO Applauds State Budget Agreement
ALBANY, NY (04/01/2008)(readMedia)-- Patricia McGeown, President/CEO of Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood (UHPP), praised the Governor and the Legislature for its attention to reproductive health services in the 2008-2009 New York State Budget:
“Here at UHPP, we face daily challenges in providing quality, reproductive health services including annual GYN exams, cancer screening, contraceptive services and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases on a tighter and tighter budget. We are pleased that the Governor and the Legislature have recognized the importance of reproductive health services by providing needed funding for emergency contraception and the HPV vaccine, as well as enhancing our capacity to meet the needs of our patients through evening and weekend hours. By strengthening primary and preventive services and improving access for the uninsured and under-insured, New York State will realize significant improvements in health outcomes.”
Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood is a community-based non-profit organization providing advocacy, education and medical services for reproductive health care in the capital region since 1934. The agency provided health care services to 11,000 patients at health centers located in Albany, Columbia, Greene and Rensselaer Counties and presented over 500 education programs reaching over 7,000 youth and young adults in 2007. UHPP services are delivered with special concern for the underserved.
