Ray Lund Earns Athlete of the Week

Senior wins two SUNYAC Championships

BROCKPORT, NY (05/11/2011)(readMedia)-- The College at Brockport's Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) has made a name for himself as one of the top throwers in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), and during this weekend's SUNYAC championship meet, Lund added to his legacy, claiming SUNYAC titles in both the discus and the hammer throw. Lund is Brockport's Male Athlete of the Week.

Lund won his third straight SUNYAC discus championship, throwing 140 feet, four inches (42.77 meters) and he picked up his second straight SUNYAC hammer throw title. In the hammer, Lund posted another NCAA championship provisional qualifying effort with a throw of 175 feet, seven inches (53.52 meters) to claim the title by 25 feet, eight inches.

Lund was part of a Brockport squad that brought home five individual SUNYAC titles during the two-day championships, which occurred on the SUNY Geneseo campus.

Lund also posted an ECAC championship-qualifying effort in the shot put, where he placed third with an effort of 49 feet, 6 1/4 inches (15.09 meters).

For his outdoor track and field career, Lund has placed in the top eight in both the hammer and the discus all four years. Lund finished in third place in the discus during his freshman season to go with his three straight championships, and he was seventh as a sophomore and fifth as a freshman in the hammer throw in addition to claiming the title his last two years.

This is the fifth time during his senior season that Lund has earned Brockport's Athlete of the Week honors.
