Ray Lund Named Athlete of the Week
Senior Track & Filed star wins two events at season-opening meet
BROCKPORT, NY (04/04/2011)(readMedia)-- Senior Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) has made a habit of qualifying for the NCAA's Division III National Championship meet during his time at The College at Brockport. During Saturday's season-opening Hamilton College Continental Invitational, Lund added another provisional qualifying effort, this time in the hammer throw, to earn Brockport's Male Athlete of the Week honors.
Lund, who placed 11th at nationals in the weight throw during the winter indoor track and field season, captured the hammer throw title with a heave of 53.95 meters (177 feet) to post yet another provisional qualifying effort. Lund's effort was more than 35 feet farther than the runner-up.
Lund, a 2010 first-team All-SUNYAC selection after claiming the hammer throw title during SUNYAC's, also won the discus with a throw of 44.02 meters (144.05 feet) by nearly 10 feet. Lund also placed second in the shot put with an effort of 14.16 meters (45 feet, 5 1/2 inches).
This is Lund's fourth time earning Brockport's Male Athlete of the Week honors.
