Rep. Gibson votes to deny lifesaving emergency health care to women
ALBANY, NY (10/13/2011)(readMedia)-- Again demonstrating his willingness to focus on legislation that undermines women's health over legislation to help create jobs and stimulate the economy, Rep. Chris Gibson voted today in favor of H.R. 358. Among other dangerous health care provisions that Rep. Gibson supported, this bill would allow a hospital to deny a woman lifesaving emergency abortion care-even if a doctor deems it necessary. It would also take comprehensive health care coverage away from women and create loopholes that states and insurance companies could exploit to undermine the new requirement that insurance companies provide birth control with no co-pays or deductibles.
"This is the latest example of Congressman Gibson putting ideology before women's health, and putting politics ahead of creating jobs and stimulating the nation's economy," said Patricia McGeown, President/CEO of Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood.
Rep. Gibson's efforts to undermine women's health have to stop. In these tough economic times, more women than ever need access to comprehensive health care.
