Sally Briggs named Iowan of the Day

CORALVILLE, IA (08/04/2009)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are honored to name Sally Briggs as Iowan of the Day at 2009 Iowa State Fair.
Sally Briggs has been extremely involved in the lives of children and young adults. She is intricate in Girl Scouts by leading not just one but two troops. Under her leadership, her two troops sell over 63,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies. She is also the Product Manager for the Mississippi Valley Service Unit 16. Sally is also involved in Special Olympics. She has coached several children and adults and has helped them excel in a variety of sports. She is the Area Director for her area where nearly 1,400 athletes compete. She has received several awards for her efforts: the Governor's Volunteer Award and the Girl Scout Outstanding Volunteer and Leader of the Year Award are just a few. Sally has become a mentor for many young people in her community.
Sally's day of honor at the Iowa State Fair will be Sunday, August 16. Sally will receive a night's stay at the Des Moines Downtown Marriott, VIP Parking at the Fair, special use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart, $200 in cash, tickets to the Big & Rich with Cowboy Troy and Candy Coburn concert at the Grandstand, and subscriptions to Iowan and Iowa Gardening magazines. Sally will be part of a special presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley Stage at 2:30 p.m. on August 16.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation began the Iowan of the Day award in 1997 to honor those Iowans who've made truly made a difference for those around them. The Foundation reviews over 250 nominations each year, and selects those that show examples of integrity, decency, hard work, and dedication to community improvement.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $80 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
