Sarah Lawson Named Brockport Athlete of the Week
BROCKPORT, NY (10/23/2012)(readMedia)-- Sarah Lawson (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) of the women's soccer team has been named The College at Brockport Female Athlete of the Week after setting the school record for career assists. Lawson helped lead the women's soccer team to a 2-0 weekend and the SUNYAC regular season championship.
Lawson assisted on the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Plattsburgh on Senior Day. The assist gave the senior 27 career assists, breaking the school record previously held by Ashley Ewin from 2004-2006. The win gave Brockport a 7-1-1 record and the team's first ever outright regular season championship in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). The Golden Eagles defeated Potsdam 4-0 on Friday.
Lawson currently leads the SUNYAC with nine assists on the year. The senior set the Brockport single season school record with 13 assists during the 2010 season and had five assists during the 2011 season.
After claiming the regular season title, the Golden Eagles earned a first round bye in the SUNYAC Tournament. Brockport will take on the winner of Cortland and Buffalo State on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field. Brockport defeated both teams earlier this season.
