Genealogy Program Set at SCPL

SCHENECTADY, NY (09/16/2013)(readMedia)-- Schenectady County Public Library, 99 Clinton, will present a free program "Exploring Your Roots: A Beginner's Guide to Genealogy and Family History" on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9-12:30 p.m. in the McChesney Room. Call 388-4511 to register.

Attendees will discover how to start or expand a family tree by finding information in online resources and in lesser-known genealogy and history resources in the Library's collections and will find out about other area resources. A demonstration of the Ancestry database, available at the Library, will also be featured.

The presenters will be: Robert Sullivan, 2011 winner of the New Netherland Institute's Alice P. Kenney Memorial Award; Nancy Curran, professional genealogist and Ancestry.com specialist; and Joan Parslow, director of the Albany New York Family History Center.

Participants will also be able to meet representatives from the Albany Colony of the N.Y. Mayflower Society; the Capital District Genealogical Society; the Schenectada Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution; the Schenectady County Historical Society; and the Saratoga Battle Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
