Sid Morris named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (07/20/2018) (readMedia)-- Des Moines, IA- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Sid Morris of Cedar Falls as an Iowan of the Day for the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

As a Korean Veteran, Sid was a driving force for the creation and development of the Cedar Falls Veterans Park, including four phases of fundraising. He hosted the "Veterans of Cedar Valley" cable show, where he interviewed a wide variety of veterans who shared their service stories with the public. Sid is constantly keeping veteran groups involved in the community.

Sid has dedicated a lifetime to serving his community. With 40 years of service in the Cedar Falls school district, serving on the City Council, Board of Education, Veterans Affairs Board, Board of Adjustment and as a Cedar Falls Utilities Trustee - Sid continually goes above and beyond. Currently, he is assisting with a campaign for a new high school in Cedar Falls. A commitment to volunteering- Sid has been involved with the American Red Cross, the Cedar Falls Historical Society, Goodwill Industries and more.

"There are two very strong things that come to mind with Mr. Morris and what he epitomizes, Community Servant and True Iowan." says nominator Andy Pattee. "Sid has the admiration and deep respect by all members of the community... because of his character and the way that he treats and interacts with people," Andy continues.

Sid's day of recognition will be on Friday, August 17 at the 2018 Iowa State Fair. He will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage at 1:15 p.m. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, he will receive a gift bag, Grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart.

Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's most outstanding individuals. The program continues to honor Iowans across the state who have made a difference in the lives of others, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa- dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
