Release # 2010090901

MONTGOMERY, AL (09/09/2010)(readMedia)-- The Alabama Army National Guard's Group Support Company, 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne), out of Gadsden, Ala., will conduct a deliberate water jump at Lake Guntersville State Park September 17, 2010.

Special Forces units routinely conduct deliberate water operations as a means of infiltration and to practice water safety techniques. Special Forces paratroopers work with specially outfitted UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters and rubber boats to safely jump into water and move to the shore to conduct operations.

There will be numerous safety measures in place, including safety divers. Each Special Forces Soldier has received years of specialized training in airborne and water operations.

This intricate and challenging training is possible through close coordination between the Alabama National Guard, Guntersville State Park, and the Alabama Marine Police.
