Spelman College Sophomore Completes Summer Institute for Emerging Managers and Leaders
ATLANTA, GA (07/11/2012)(readMedia)-- ATLANTA (July 11, 2012) -- Comparative women's studies major Alaina Long, C'2015, recently completed the University of California Summer Institute for Emerging Managers and Leaders program. An all-expense-paid, career-building fellowship, the program, held at the University of California Berkeley, provides intensive, two-week training to first- and second-year students from historically Black colleges and universities. As a program fellow, the Orlando, Fla. native learned from world-class educators at the University of California's graduate business schools.
During the program, Long met with CEOs, CFOs and other industry leaders in some of the country's most thriving hubs for enterprise and innovation. Participating in dynamic, hands-on workshops that immersed her in principles of business development and entrepreneurship, Long also gained analytical, technical and management expertise and exposure to opportunities for internships, career development, and for pursuing a master's degree in business.
She will complete the fellowship next summer, at which time she will receive a certificate of completion and have the opportunity to secure internships. Long plans to pursue a business master's degree in nonprofit management.
