ATLANTA, GA (12/09/2011)(readMedia)-- Spelman College junior, April Brown, recently received a certificate of achievement in Psychology at the 2011 Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS). The psychology major, who is a native of Yazoo City, MS, was awarded $250 for her poster presentation titled "Autobiographical Recall: An Integrated Trace Perspective."

Established in 2001, ABRCMS has become one of the largest professional conferences for students studying biomedical and behavioral sciences. During the four-day conference, over 1,400 students participated in poster and oral presentations in twelve disciplines, including mathematics. All undergraduate student presentations were judged and those receiving the highest scores in each scientific discipline and in each educational level were given an award during the final banquet.

ABRCMS encourages underrepresented minority students to pursue advanced training in the biomedical and behavioral sciences, including mathematics. It also provides faculty mentors and advisors with resources for facilitating students' success.
