Stephanie Geer Named Top Student-Athlete

Senior pitcher earns top female scolar athlete award at Brockport

BROCKPORT, NY (05/11/2011)(readMedia)-- The hundreds of student-athletes on The College at Brockport's 23 varsity sports teams combined to earn dozens of All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) honors, a handful of national accolades and numerous academic awards while both the men's soccer and women's lacrosse teams once again qualified for the NCAA Division III tournaments.

In a year filled with memorable accomplishments, Brockport announced that senior softball pitcher Stephanie Geer (Binghamton, NY/Seton Catholic) was named Brockport's Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.

The awards were announced during Brockport's annual Student-Athlete Awards celebration, held Saturday inside Brockport's Tuttle North Ice Arena.

Geer, a Chemistry Major with an ACS Certification major, carries a 3.91 GPA and is the 2010-11 School of Science and Mathematics Undergraduate Award recipient. Earlier this spring, she was a finalist for the prestigious President's Citation Award, the highest academic honor a Brockport graduating senior can receive. Geer was also one of the four SUNY Chancellor's Award of Excellence recipients, and she's been heavily involved in Brockport's community service activities.

Geer was recently honored as a 2010-11 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/Capital One Academic All-District selection, one of 11 student-athletes named to the District 1 First-Team College Division portion of the honor roll. The team pays tribute to the top student-athletes in each sport from across the country as voted on by the Sports Information Directors from all of the colleges and universities in the United States. By earning first-team All-District honors, Geer becomes eligible for Academic All-American honors. Those awards will be announced sometime in mid-May.

The Athlete and Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were determined after compiling votes from each of Brockport's varsity coaches, as well as the Athletic Communications staff and select athletic administrators.
