SAVANNAH, GA (06/22/2011)(readMedia)-- The Coastal Victims Assistance Service (CVAS) hosted their first Summer Fun Day on Saturday, June 11 in Daffin Park. The event raised money for the CVAS mission of assisting Coastal first responders and local victims of disasters. Excellent attendance and generous donations allowed CVAS to grow their assistance funds.

CVAS volunteers set out rugs, pictures and racks full of freshly pressed unclaimed clothes donated from local dry cleaners. For four hours visitors browsed the sales, visited the refreshments booths and learned about CVAS. Kids clamored to the two bounce houses and hung on the words of first responders on hand for the event. Shoppers had access to high quality garments and home accessories at bargain prices, while helping an important local non-profit. David's Dry Cleaners, Berwick Self-Storage, Puroclean Disaster Restoration Services and Image is Everything were critical corporate sponsors for the event. Southside Fire Department & EMS, Thunderbolt Fire Department and Garden City Police Department made emergency equipment and personnel available for the event.

"I looked through everything and found a Burberry jacket for my sister," said Megan Merrifield, daughter of fire chief Dennis Merrifield of Barrow County. "It's a beautiful coat and supports a great cause, too!"

CVAS supports police, firefighters, and EMTs and the victims they help in Chatham County. "Our responders provide stability to victims and advise them on steps that they need to take immediately," said CVAS President Tim Blanco. "We help victims of fires with contacts to fire, smoke, and water remediation firms as well as general assistance in navigating the system."

Summer Fun Day was made possible by the hard work of CVAS board members including Cari Clark Phelps of Clark Creative, Laura Zeigler of Certified Restoration Drycleaning Network and Preston Laird of The Coastal Bank.
