TAKE TO THE STAIRS AND SUPPORT THE FIGHT FOR AIR

2016 Stair Climb adds Triple Climb option for extreme athletes

LOUISVILLE, KY (01/14/2016)(readMedia)-- The American Lung Association in Kentucky is excited to announce the 3rd annual Fight for Air Climb. The Louisville Fight For Air Climb will take place Saturday, February 6, 2016 at National City Tower. In addition to the Regular Climb option the 2016 Climb will offer a Triple Climb to celebrate the event's third year in Kentucky.

"Everyone breathes, so everyone has a stake in the fight for air," says organizer Deena Adams. "We're looking for hundreds of participants to join in the fight for air and expect a fantastic turn-out from the community!"

On event day, participants of all ages and from all walks of life will climb National City Tower's 780 steps-that's 38 floors-to support lung disease research and air quality initiatives. For Triple Climb participants, that's 4,680 steps or 228 floors! Climbers will include casual to elite athletes, walkers and runners, firefighters, first responders and military heroes. The climb provides a great cross-training opportunity for active individuals who are preparing for the spring's Triple Crown of Racing.

"Participants in the Fight for Air Climb know what it is to address a challenge head on. So does Humana," said Rae Godsey, DO, Corporate Medical Director for Humana. "We've set out to improve the health of communities we serve 20 percent by 2020, and our goal is only achievable if we work together with organizations like the American Lung Association. We're proud to support the ALA in its fight against lung cancer and its assistance of those living with chronic lung diseases. In the end, we believe we'll all be breathing easier."

Corporate, family and friends teams work to build camaraderie, while challenging themselves and even a bit of corporate competition with others (all in good fun, of course.) Many lung disease survivors will be climbing, as will individuals taking part to honor loved ones affected by lung disease.

Climb activities start with registration at 8:00 a.m. and the Regular Climb begins at 9:00 a.m. (Triple Climb participants take off at 7:00 a.m.) One highlight will feature Emergency Responders, taking to the steps in full gear. As they step across the finish mat, these brave public servants who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe will be cheered on by the crowd. All festivities take place at National City Tower, 101 South 5th Street.

The Louisville Fight for Air Climb is a mission-driven event. The registration fee for the regular Fight for Air Climb is $35 with a minimum fundraising requirement of $100. The Triple Climb registration is $50 with a minimum fundraising requirement of $300. Climbers can quality for a variety of incentive prizes based on the amount of money they raise.

Proceeds support lung health programs, education, research, and advocacy. Presenting sponsors are Humana and National City Tower & Cushman& Wakefield.

Providing people with the tools and resources they need to take control of lung disease is a top priority for the American Lung Association. Lung cancer is America's #1 cancer killer in both women and men. Thirty-five million Americans are living with chronic lung diseases such as asthma and COPD.
