Tax help at Geneva
Students offer free tax preparation to qualifying taxpayers.
BEAVER FALLS, PA (03/05/2012)(readMedia)-- Geneva College business students, in conjunction with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, are currently offering free tax return preparation for qualifying families that have basic returns. To qualify, taxpayers must make under $45,000 annually, or be over the age of 62.
VITA Site Coordinator Dr. Gary Vander Plaats maintains that the reason Geneva College students are interested in the VITA program is rooted in the theological tradition of the College. "The Department of Business, Accounting and Management, following the tradition of the Reformers, teaches that our callings and vocations represent concrete and specific ways of serving our neighbors," Dr. Vander Plaats explained. "The business department tries to reinforce with students that our love for God could be measured by how well we love and serve our neighbors."
This free service is available through April 14, and appointments are available on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 724-847-6615.
