Taylor School students donate supplies to Humane Society
Donation of supplies to go to Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society
TROY, NY (12/13/2010)(readMedia)-- Students in the 5th and 6th grade class at the Susan Odell Taylor School in Troy have been working on a service learning project that will aid the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society.
Each student chose a dog waiting for adoption and wrote a personal narrative from the animal's perspective. The students hope this will entice people to adopt the dogs. Teacher, Lianne Adams notes, "By using words, the students are bringing the animals to life so they (the animals) can tell their life stories."
Also as part of the service learning project, the students collected items from the Humane Society's "Wish List". The students learned, it takes alot of supplies to properly shelter and care for the animals. Items collected consisted of; paper towels, peanut butter, newspapers, old cloth towels, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, shoe boxes, old blankets, canned and wet dog and cat food, and bleach.
The class will be visiting the Humane Society on Friday, December 17th at 1:00 p.m. to deliver the goods they collected. They will also give the personal narratives they wrote to the shelter so that they may attach them to the approriate dog's kennel.
