The Pennsylvania News Media Association recognizes The Cabinet

Geneva College's student newspaper received an Honorable Mention in the annual Keystone Student Press Awards.

BEAVER FALLS, PA (02/28/2014)(readMedia)-- Geneva College's student-run newspaper, The Geneva Cabinet, was recently recognized with an Honorable Mention at the Pennsylvania News Media Association's annual Keystone Student Press Awards. The award was given in "Photo Story" category for coverage of Geneva's 2013 Homecoming, which included The Cabinet's Facebook album of photos.

The photos were taken by Editor-in-Chief Joel Shannon, and are available on Facebook.

Of the 48 awards presented by the Pennsylvania News Media Association, only five student newspapers from private colleges received awards.

"I'm very excited that the Cabinet got recognition from the PA News Media Association," said Shannon. "Of the 48 awards given, only five went to private schools. The big schools simply have more resources and more compelling stories as a general rule, so any recognition of a private school is a big deal."

According to The Cabinet, the Homecoming 2013 album, "remains the most viewed story on The Cabinet's Facebook page" since its publication on October 19, 2013, "with over 17,000 page views and a reach of over 8,000 people."

The Pennsylvania News Media Association posted an online version of the award winner's list .
