Tyler Clifford Named SUNYAC Pitcher of the Week

BROCKPORT, NY (04/24/2013)(readMedia)-- Freshman Tyler Clifford (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) of The College at Brockport baseball team has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pitcher of the Week. Clifford becomes the second consecutive Golden Eagle to win the award after teammate James Bardenett (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) was honored last week.

Clifford appeared in just one game last week, but that was all the rookie needed to be honored by the league. Clifford pitched his first career complete game shutout, leading the Golden Eagles to a 4-0 victory over the Stevens Ducks on Saturday night, completing the two-game sweep.

After defeating the Ducks 11-4 in game one, Clifford got his third start of the season. The rookie allowed just three hits in the nightcap- one in the second and two in the seventh. Clifford struck out a career-high nine batters on the night and did not allow a walk. With the shutout, Clifford lowered his earned run average to 3.26, second lowest on the team.

The Golden Eagles will head to the University of Rochester for a nonconference matchup on Tuesday, set to begin at 6:30 pm.
