QUEENS VILLAGE, NY (04/02/2009)(readMedia)-- United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 1500 will announce their endorsement of Mayor Mike Bloomberg for a third term today, April 2nd, at the Pathmark Supermarket located on 125th Street and Lexington Avenue in Harlem at 11:00 a.m.
United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1500, based out of Queens Village, represents over 23,000 grocery workers in New York City, Long Island, Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties. Members of Local 1500 are employed by Pathmark, King Kullen, Stop and Shop, Gristedes, Fairway, D'agastinos, Key Food and Shop Rite.
The foundation for the endorsement of Mayor Mike Bloomberg from UFCW Local 1500 stems from the Union and the Administration's collaboration on bringing more Supermarkets to neighborhoods throughout New York City, especially in lower income communities were the lack of access to a full service supermarket has had a tremendous negative impact.
"Mayor Bloomberg and his administration have been outstanding partners with the staff and members of Local 1500 as we set out to bring Good Food, Good Jobs and Good Health to all of New York City's neighborhoods," stated Bruce W. Both, President of UFCW Local 1500. "While we have just begun to walk down this path to more good paying grocery jobs and healthier communities with the Mayor, it has become clear to all of us this is a priority of not just his administration but for him personally. His sincere commitment has earned our support and we look forward to a successful relationship that will bring results that all New Yorkers can be proud of," Both concluded.
The United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1500's Building Blocks Project promotes and establishes policies that support the preservation of existing supermarkets, the development of new supermarkets and ensures workers rights to form a union without fear. These policies form the foundation of the Building Blocks Project: Good Food, Good Jobs and Good Health. When a community is built upon this foundation, it produces positive results for all residents of New York City and State.
