UHPP S.T.A.R.S. Peer Educators to Perform at Annual Winter Walk
Local high school students to present original theatre work and distribute information
ALBANY, NY (12/05/2008)(readMedia)-- Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood's S.T.A.R.S peer education group will be performing a theatrical piece at the 12th Annual Winter Walk in Hudson, New York on December 6th at 5:15pm. S.T.A.R.S, which stands for Seriously Talking about Responsible Sex, is a program made possible through a grant from the New York State Department of Health-Community Based Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program (CBAPP). The peer education group is made up of ten students from Hudson, Taconic Hills and Chatham High Schools whose job is to provide educational programs on issues of sexual health in classrooms, community settings and other youth oriented locations. The members of S.T.A.R.S .will be performing an original piece that mixes improvisational work and poetry. The piece is based on two months work with theater consultant Paul Ricciardi.
The S.T.A.R.S. program will also have a table with information about sexual health for men, women, parents and youth.
Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood is a community-based non-profit organization providing advocacy, education and medical services for reproductive health care in the capital region since 1934. The agency provided health care services to 11,000 patients at health centers located in Albany, Columbia, Greene and Rensselaer Counties and presented over 500 education programs reaching over 7,000 youth and young adults in 2007. UHPP services are delivered with special concern for the underserved.
