UPDATED: SUNY Downstate's Coalition of Faith, Labor and Community Holds Press Conference on Services, Jobs

ALBANY, NY (02/05/2014)(readMedia)-- The SUNY Downstate Coalition of Faith, Labor and Community Groups will hold a press conference, discussing the need to save jobs and vital health care services at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Thursday, February 6 at 12 noon.

The coalition will hold a Clergy Interfaith breakfast and strategizing session from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

The press conference and strategizing session will be held at Saint Lucia House, 438 East 49th Street, Brooklyn, NY.

WHO:

The New York State Public Employees Federation (PEF), the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA), the United University Professions (UUP) will join the SUNY Downstate Coalition of Faith and Community Groups.

WHAT:

The press conference will focus on the need to save jobs and vital health care services at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn's hospital that treats more than 400,000 patients a year.

NOTES:

The PEF Council Leader Don Morgenstern, a research scientist at SUNY Downstate Medical Center who received a layoff notice, will be in attendance with the Executive Board of the Coalition.

The Coalition Executive Board includes: Pastor Gilford T. Monrose, President; Bishop Eric D. Garnes, First Vice-President; Bishop R.C. Hugh Nelson, Second Vice-President; Reverend Charles O. Galbreath, Treasurer; and The Reverend Canon Howard K. Williams, Secretary. 

Elected officials attending are: Public Advocate Letitia James and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.

State Assembly Members James Brennan, Alec Brook-Krasny, Karim Camara, Nick Perry and Walter Mosley.

State Senators Martin Dilan and Kevin Parker.

New York City Council Members Alan Maisel and Jumaane Williams.
