Winchester Parks and Recreation Introduces New Community Recreation Program Guide

Class, league, tour and event registration begins December 12th

WINCHESTER, VA (12/12/2013)(readMedia)-- The Winchester Parks and Recreation Department announces the release of the new Winchester Parks and Recreation Department Program Guide. The Guide includes 107 classes, tours, leagues, and special events taking place during the winter and spring of 2014. New in this Guide is the "Environmental Education and Sustainable Living" program section, the "Winchester Tourism and Old Town" program section and new developments in the "Aquatics" section.The general theme of this marketing piece focuses around a shift in department philosophy incorporating a human service aspect to parks and recreation. The new human service philosophy seeks to improve the human condition through, facilties, parks and programs and balances the business and faciltitor role of the past. The Guide promotes the belief that all Winchestrians matter, and by providing affordable, diverse and comprehensive programs that support our Department mission and vision, it enables social equity and the creation of a more livable City for all. In addition to a major increase in affordable programs, there is an entire spread devoted to Winchester's Spanish-speaking community, "Bienvenidos Amigos de Habla Hispana."

The Winchester Parks and Recreation Department's winter program guide can be viewed on the City webpage: http://www.winchesterva.gov/sites/default/files/documents/parks/activity-guides/january-2014/index.html. Registration is now being taken by mail, phone and in-person at the War Memorial Building in Jim Barnett Park. Credit Card payments are accepted in person and over the phone.

Hard Copies of the Department Program Guide will be direct mailed to all Winchester residences between December 23 and December 30. Be on the look out for the "Dodgeball" cover -a photograph of HIVE children playing dodgeball in Denny Lee Gymnasium. Street distribution of the Guide takes place beginning December 20th. Street distribution points are; War Memorial Building, Rouss City Hall, Handley Public Library, Winchester-Frederick County Tourism and various coffee shops in Winchester and Frederick County.
