Blueberries Picked at Liberty Ridge Farm

SCHAGHTICOKE, NY (07/11/2015)(readMedia)-- Liberty Ridge Farm opens for You Pick Farm Fresh Blueberries.

Blueberry Picking in the Capital Region of Upstate N.Y. is an amazing way to spend time outdoors, eat healthy and learn valuable lessons about how food is grown and consumed. This year, Liberty Ridge Farm predicts a plentiful harvest as one of several local farms in the Capital District with an affinity for these berries.

Blueberries typically ripen in early July when the farms hope to capitalize on a growing trend in consumer behavior. Since 1997, blueberry consumption has dramatically increased in the U.S. and has moved blueberries to second place as the most commonly eaten berry in the U.S. (second only to the strawberry). Liberty Ridge Farm grow highbush blueberries, this bush type of blueberry reaches five to six feet in height and can produce up to 15 pounds of fruit per bush. When the blueberries become ripe, the fields are open to the public.

Cynthia Gifford, owner of Liberty Ridge Farms says, "We planted our blueberry bush field about 9 years ago and this year we believe due to amazing growing conditions, it will be our best crop ever!"

Liberty Ridge Farm encourages families to bring their own containers or use one of the farm's to 'pick-your-own' fresh grown blueberries starting on July 11th for the 2015 season. During season, the farm offers berries by the pint or by the pound freshly picked at the Farm Market counter. Blueberry picking starts July 11th, from 7am until 12pm everyday and runs through mid-August until the harvest is complete.

Liberty Ridge Farm is the Northeast's premier agri-tourism destination and home of the Largest Haunted attraction in the Capital Region. Now in their 16th Season offering entertainment for all ages,. The farm has expanded to offer a variety of events, and vintage fall family fun with a down to earth rustic charm. The farm's fall festival offers over 20 hands on activities, 2 cornfield mazes, pumpkin picking, daily shows, apple cider donuts and an amazing jumping pillow. The Harvest Haunted attraction opens and runs through October, open every weekend night in in October. The farm is also used as a venue for fund-raising, corporate events, social gatherings, company picnics, school educational field trips, wedding receptions and more. Beginning September 19th the farm is open to the public with their fall season running until Novemeber 11th.
