DETROIT, MI (10/15/2015)(readMedia)-- Therese Smith of Ypsilanti, Michigan has been elected to the American Lung Association of the Midland States Board of Directors. Smith, a Registered Nurse with over 30 years of experience serving a multitude of populations from newborns to seniors, has witnessed first-hand the effects of lung disease on people of all backgrounds.
Smith will be lending her expertise on the Advocacy initiatives of the American Lung Association of the Midland States, which provides programs and services to the residents of Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
In 2013, Smith was one of 11 people honored by the White House as a Champion of Change, a program created as an opportunity for the White House to feature groups of Americans – individuals, businesses and organizations – who are doing extraordinary things to empower and inspire members of their communities.
Through her career, Smith has worked on the front lines to treat patients who will be most impacted by climate change. In addition, she has been a first-hand witness to the already heavy burden air pollution places on families of kids with asthma, adults with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and those struggling with other lung health challenges. She has also been an active volunteer of the American Lung Association in Michigan, and is a member of the organization's local Regional Leadership Council.
The mission of the American Lung Association is to save lives through the prevention of lung disease and lung health. For more information, visit www.lung.org.
