Zach Prentice Named Athlete of the Week
Senior earns Brockport's male athlete of the week award
BROCKPORT, NY (05/23/2011)(readMedia)-- Senior Zach Prentice (Auburn, NY/Auburn) put on a hitting display during The College at Brockport baseball team's appearance in the New York Regional of the NCAA tournament. Prentice, who batted .470 over four games in the Regional, was honored as Brockport's Male Athlete of the Week.
Prentice, a left fielder, went 8-for-17 with a home run and three RBI for the Golden Eagles (30-14), who were making their second straight appearance in the New York Regional, held at Falcon Park in Auburn, NY. After Brockport lost its first game to Eastern Connecticut State, Prentice had a monster performance in Brockport's elimination game against Mitchell (CT) College.
Prentice, who grew up along the shores of Owasco Lake not too far from Falcon Park, went 4-for-5 with a solo home run and three RBI as the Golden Eagles rolled to a 10-0 win over Mitchell.
Thanks to his big home run and clutch hitting, Prentice and the Golden Eagles gave head coach Justin Beach his 100th career win at Brockport. Prentice added a 1-for-3 performance in a 6-2 win over SUNY Farmingdale and was 2-for-5 with two runs scored in Brockport's 6-3 win over Eastern Connecticut State.
Prentice also scored six runs and stole two bases while playing in four of Brockport's five Regional games and was named to the All-Tournament team for the Regional Championship.
