COLUMBUS OH (10/11/2011)(readMedia)-- Dr. William Hicks, clinical professor in medical oncology at The Ohio State University, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the American Lung Association of the Midland States. Based in Columbus, ALAMS provides programs and services to the residents of Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, and Tennessee.
Dr. Hicks has an extensive list of health-related community service and is active is a variety of organizations including the Ohio Department of Health Cancer Prevention and Control Medical Advisory Team; AARP Ohio Advisory committee; and the Ohio Tobacco Quit Line Advisory Panel. He is also an active member of the national American Lung Association's Lung Cancer Advisory Group, which produced the 2010 report "Too Many Cases, Too Many Deaths: Lung Cancer in African Americans".
The mission of the American Lung Association is to save lives through the prevention of lung disease and lung health. Originally founded in the early 1900's to fight tuberculosis, the association now is actively involved with a variety of lung health issues working through research, advocacy, and education initiatives.
