DEARBORN, MI (04/09/2009)(readMedia)-- In Michigan, more than 900,000 residents, many of whom are children, live with asthma. Over 7,000 residents will be diagnosed this year with lung cancer. Many of our citizens breathe air that does not meet basic quality standards. The American Lung Association is taking action in Michigan to change these statistics and so can you.
The American Lung Association's Butterfly Ball will take place Saturday, May 9, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Ritz-Carlton in Dearborn (300 Town Center Drive, Dearborn, MI 48126). Proceeds from the event will go towards lung health research, education and advocacy in Michigan.
The Butterfly Ball will honor Nancy M. Schlichting, President and CEO of Henry Ford Health System (HFHS), a leader in the fight against lung disease. Through Schlichting's leadership, HFHS has established a smoke free campus, supported smoking cessation programs for HFHS associates and has provided longtime support for lung disease research and community outreach.
Evening highlights will include remarks by Tracy Ross, CEO of the American Lung Association of the Midland States, an award presentation for Schlichting, live and silent auctions, cocktails, dinner, and music. The Butterfly Ball will be emceed by Ron Savage of FOX 2 News.
The live and silent auctions will feature VIP tickets to The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and The Bonnie Hunt Show, as well as tickets to the 2009 Buick Open. Attendees will also have the opportunity to bid on backstage tours at FOX 2 and WDIV/Local 4, and one lucky bidder will leave the Butterfly Ball with a New York-style photo shoot experience courtesy of Ambassador Magazine.
Sponsors for the Butterfly Ball include General Motors, Henry Ford Health System, UAW-GM, AstraZeneca, Ambassador Magazine, FOX 2, After 5 Detroit, and The Observer & Eccentric Newspapers.
