ALBANY, NY (01/19/2012)(readMedia)-- Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood will honor the New York Civil Liberties Union Reproductive Rights Project as a Champion of Choice at its annual celebration of the historic Roe v. Wade decision on January 19, 2012 at the Fort Orange Club in downtown Albany. Advocates for women's health from around the Capital Region, as well as local and state legislators, are expected to turn out to honor the 39th year of the groundbreaking legislation.
According to Deborah Rosen Zamer, Chair of the UHPP Board of Directors, "the Reproductive Rights Project demonstrates the NYCLU's commitment to preserving and expanding the reproductive rights of all New Yorkers, especially the most vulnerable. As reproductive rights come under increasing attack, we applaud this program's accomplishments."
Past Champion of Choice honorees have included, among others, NYS Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, NYS Senator Neil Breslin, NYS Assemblyman Ron Canestrari, then Senate Minority Leader David Patterson, the Albany Medical Students for Choice, Shirley Gordon, founder of Family Planning Advocated of New York, and in 2010 former Deputy Secretary for Public Safety and Commissioner, NYS Division of Criminal Justice Service, Denise O'Donnell.
