Andrew Mrozek Earns National Honors

BROCKPORT, NY (10/23/2012)(readMedia)-- Sophomore Andrew Mrozek (Depew, NY/Lancaster) of The College at Brockport Football team has been named the BeyondSportsNetwork.com Division III Offensive Player of the Week after setting a school record for receiving yards in a game. The Golden Eagles defeated Western Connecticut 42-7 to improve to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

The sophomore caught seven receptions for an average of 36 yards per catch en route to a school record 252 receiving yards. The record led to two other school records being broken as well- most passing yards in a game with 444 and total offense in a game by Joe Scibilia (North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) with 466 yards.

Mrozek caught four passes in the first half for 76 yards, including a 51-yard reception in the first quarter. Mrozek erupted for 176 yards on just three catches in the third quarter alone. Scibilia and Mrozek hooked up for an 88-yard touchdown reception to put Brockport up 22-7. The catch is tied for the fourth longest touchdown reception in school history. The tandem paired up again with just over a minute left in the third quarter on a 69-yard touchdown strike.

Mrozek has caught 33 passes for a team-high 744 yards on the year. The sophomore entered the season with 34 career receptions and 474 receiving yards. Mrozek has six touchdowns on the year, doubling his mark from his freshman season.

Along with the national honor, Mrozek has also been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Offensive Player of the Week and The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week for his performance.

The sophomore is the second Golden Eagle to be named the NJAC Offensive Player of the Week this season. Scibilia earned the award in each of the first two weeks of the season. Mrozek becomes the first wide receiver to earn the award since Jake Spalik (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) in week seven of the 2011 season.

Brockoprt will take on Montclair St. on Nov. 3 following a bye week. The Golden Eagles and the Red Hawks will kick off at 1:00 pm.
