Angry Public has the Power to Drive Reform in NYS Talk Show Host States in Empire Page Interview

ALBANY, NY (01/13/2010)(readMedia)-- Dan Lynch, former newspaper editor and columnist and long-time talk show host, believes leadership to help NYS out of its current crisis will come "when the public demands it." Lynch reported on the mood of his listeners, offered his recommendations for constitutional reform and assessed Gov. Paterson's ethics proposals in a wide-ranging interview published today on the Empire Page.

"My listeners -- most of whom are conservatives and not terribly fond of government to begin with -- are vastly more hostile to the state's political establishment than they used to be," Lynch states. While he admits the odds are against defeat of many incumbents in the fall of 2010, "a dip in [the re-election] rate to even as lofty a level as 85 per cent would unnerve them and, possibly, spark some long overdue reform."

"All the problems of democracy could be solved by more citizen involvement in that democracy," Lynch says. That view informs his opposition to term limits something proposed by Gov. Paterson in his state of the state.
