INDIANAPOLIS, IN (11/10/2011)(readMedia)-- On Saturday, November 5, 2011 Ashley Brundage received a "Realizing the Dream" scholarship from the Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI). She is a sophomore accounting and finance major who is a member of the color guard and History Club at Marian University Indianapolis.
Mad possible by a grant to ICI from the Lilly Endowment, "Realizing the Dream" recognizes the triumphs of first-generation students in their first year of college. The 31 student honorees are Indiana high school graduates who subsequently demonstrated superior academic performance during their first year of students and exhibited leadership in campus or community activities.
The program also celebrates the roles played by teachers and parents in shaping student aspirations for a college education. After being selected by Marian University for the scholarship, Brundage named Andrew Stainbrook, a teacher at Pike High School in Indianapolis, as the person who most influenced her to attend colleges. Stainbrook will receive a $1,000 professional development award.
