Coalition seeks transparency and to keep community voice in our schools

YONKERS, NY (05/06/2014)(readMedia)-- New community task force - Coaltion for a Better Yonkers - seeks input and transparency in our schools amid impending changes.

WHO:

Coalition for a Better Yonkers: The new task force formed by community coalition is a blend of community organizations, labor unions, members of clergy/faith-based groups, parents, members of the Yonkers Council PTA, Yonkers Parents United (YPU) and voting residents of Yonkers. The group has committed to ensuring a strong community voice in our city, quality education for the children of Yonkers through continued input and involvement, to respect workers rights while rebuilding our city and school district with transparency and following the voice of residents and taxpayers of Yonkers. 

WHAT:

 • Ensure Yonkers residents have a voice in our school system.

• Strengthen transparency and long-term, sustainable solutions.

• Preserve quality education and services.

• Solve Yonkers’ financial crisis without taking away the community voice.
