Communication students sweep 36 Hour audio/visual challenge at broadcasters conference

First place awards are testament to highly esteemed programs at Northwestern

ST.PAUL, MN (03/05/2012)(readMedia)-- Northwestern communication students took first place in both the film and audio 36 Hour Challenge at the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) conference in Nashville.

The 36.DA and 36.DV Challenges pit teams of students from Christian colleges around the country against one another in a 36-hour race to create pieces centered on a predetermined theme. The students spent their day and a half rapidly writing, recording and editing their projects to be evaluated by a panel of judges.

When the winners were announced at the iNRB Student Production Awards Ceremony, teams from Northwestern were awarded first place in both the audio and video competitions. Judges from the competition noted that both of the winning productions portrayed excellent storytelling.

Senior Anna Carey, who served as Producer for the 36.DV team's award-winning film, shared in the joy of the Northwestern students' hard work rewarded. "It's amazing to be a part of such an experience," said Carey, "And to be alongside such talented friends and professors...I will forever remember this experience."

The 36.DV team also included Ross Fleming, Luke Stapleton and Grant Swanson. Senior EMC majors Kim Davis, Lyssa Hester and Josh Svendsen comprised NWC's award-winning audio team.

All films were judged by professionals not associated with any of the participating schools. The creation of the short film and audio spot were entirely student's own work, without guidance, direction, suggestions or assistance from professors or advisors.
