BROCKPORT, NY (05/01/2013)(readMedia)-- Junior Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) of The College at Brockport softball team has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Player of the Week after leading the Golden Eagles to a 5-1 conference record and the regular season championship.
Dumas batted .409 in six league games on the week as the Golden Eagles clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament. Dumas collected nine hits on the week, including one double and two home runs. The junior drove in seven runs and scored four runs with a .727 slugging percentage.
Taking on Fredonia in a conference doubleheader on Monday, Dumas collected three hits, including a two-run home run in the nightcap as Brockport swept the Blue Devils.
In a critical showdown between the top two teams in the league, Dumas powered the Golden Eagles to a sweep over Cortland. Dumas delivered a three-run go-ahead home run in the sixth inning of game two to give Brockport a 5-4 victory. Dumas picked up five hits and drove in five runs in the series against the Red Dragons.
In two non-league games against Rochester on Tuesday, Dumas picked up two extra base hits, a double and a home run to boos ther batting average to .327 on the year.
The Golden Eagles will host the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament, set to begin on Thursday morning. Brockport will host Oswego in the opening game at 9:00 am at the Clark V. Whited Complex.
